Who registers your domain
Grandhosting is a reseller. We register all domains, including .gr and .ελ, through Hosting Concepts B.V. (Openprovider) in the Netherlands. Openprovider is an ICANN-accredited registrar and an accredited .gr registrar. ICS-FORTH runs the .gr and .ελ registry under the rules of the Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT).
When you register a domain, you also accept Openprovider’s registration terms and the registry’s rules. For .gr and .ελ, these include the EETT Regulation on the Management and Assignment of .gr and .ελ Domain Names.
Your rights as a registrant
ICANN publishes the rights and responsibilities of every registrant of a generic domain: Registrants’ Benefits and Responsibilities, and ICANN’s registrant education pages. The domain is registered in your name, or the name you give us, and you can transfer it away.
Accurate contact details
You must give accurate owner contact details and keep them up to date. Under the EU NIS2 Directive (Article 28), registration data must be verified. We may ask you to confirm your details, and an unconfirmed domain can be suspended. Data that is not personal is published in WHOIS/RDAP. Personal data is disclosed only to people with a legitimate interest who make a justified request, which we answer within 72 hours.
Registration periods
You register and renew .gr and .ελ names for two years at a time, a registry rule. Other extensions are registered for one year or more. The prices on our domains page and in your dashboard state the period they cover.
Renewal and expiry
If auto-renewal is on, we renew the domain from your wallet a few days before it expires, as long as your balance covers the renewal. The renewal price is shown in your dashboard before it is charged. We email you about one month and one week before expiry, if a renewal cannot be completed, and again after the domain expires.
After expiry: a .gr or .ελ name can still be renewed from your dashboard for 15 days, at the normal renewal price; after that the registry releases it. For other extensions, contact us. During the registry’s grace period we renew at the normal renewal price. After it, if the registry allows a restore, you pay our cost of the restore plus one year’s renewal. Both prices are listed for every extension on our domains page, and we confirm the price before anything is charged.
Transfers
You can transfer a domain to another registrar or provider. You get the authorisation code from your dashboard; for .gr and .ελ names, the registry emails it to the owner’s email address. A transfer can be refused only on the grounds the registry or ICANN rules allow. These include a recent registration, transfer or owner change, a pending dispute or court order, evidence of fraud, or an objection from the domain owner.
Disputes about a domain name
Disputes over generic domains (such as .com) follow ICANN’s Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP). Disputes over .gr and .ελ names are decided by EETT under its Regulation, or by the courts. We follow the decision.
Refunds
If you are a consumer, at checkout you ask us to register the domain at once and confirm that you lose your 14-day right of withdrawal once it is registered. After that, a registration or renewal cannot be refunded. If a registration cannot be completed, the full amount goes back to your wallet. See our Right of withdrawal page.
